The issuer may close the account if it is not used for a long time, so to avoid inactivity of credit cards try to use card at least once every six months.
FREMONT, CA: Credit card is gaining popularity in the market because it is a suitable financial product that anyone can use for everyday purchases. Other than this, with a credit card, the holder can earn rewards, cask backs, and other benefits as well. But if you will not use your card for a long time, it will become inactive, and you will lose all the benefits.
How often should a person use credit cards to keep them active?
Generally, there is no fixed minimum requirement to save your card from inactivity; try to use cards once every six months or once every three months. Till now, there is no standard time for how long an inactive account can remain. If a person has a store credit card, then they have to use it in three months to keep it active. In such cases, no need to spend a lot of money to keep the card alive; use card for one small purchase - any small or big purchase will do.
What happens if a person doesn’t use a credit card for a long time?
Sometimes people forget using their card for a long time, and it gets closed because of inactivity and there some other dangers that could arise:
• Rewards expire: Most of the reward cards have cashback and points that never expire with time, but some are there whose reward points expire after a certain period of inactivity.
• Fraudulent activity goes unnoticed: You should check your credit card at a specified interval; otherwise, if you never check the statement, there are chances of missing fraudulent activities, and if the auto-pay option is turned on, you could pay the bill without even realizing it.
• Potential embarrassment: It might create an embarrassing and uncomfortable moment for you, suppose you are at a restaurant, and your card is declined.
